Swan Turton is a commercial law firm offering market leading services in the media, marketing and technology sectors. They initially engaged MarlynScott to review its Cloud based desktop provision. Swan Turton wanted to benchmark the service they were receiving against other suppliers, as well as help resolve some ongoing issues. MarlynScott performed an IT review and worked directly with the suppliers to create an action plan to address identified challenges. This plan was then project managed by MarlynScott through to completion.
Subsequently MarlynScott was engaged again when Swan Turton wanted to purchase a new telephone system. Our consultant was engaged to review and propose a new telephony solution for the business. This involved reviewing proposals, examining the technical detail in the costs, and ensuring Swan Turton purchased a modern, cost effective and efficient telephony system from a reputable supplier.
“[the consultant] was very helpful to us in reviewing our IT arrangements, including assessing the service quality of our cloud provider, and in helping us to select a new telephony system. His calm but incisive approach was much appreciated.” – Owner Swan Turton
GS1 UK required a complete IT review as a basis for a new IT Strategy. Once presented to the board of Directors, approval was gained for the outsourcing of the ageing colocation datacentre to a cloud provider. Our consultant undertook an exhaustive review of the market considering private providers as well as major cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS. The selection process resulted in the selection of a UK based provider which was project managed on behalf of GS1 UK by our consultant.
As well as the datacentre move the IS strategy called for a complete revamping of reporting for the business. The monthly reporting for the core KPI’s of the business was re-created as dashboards that updated daily not monthly. This gave greater visibility and afforded senior management the ability to quickly spot trends and factors that affected the business. A major step forward from the once a month updates previously.
Finally the strategy called for a step change improvement for collaboration amongst the highly mobile workforce. This was addressed through an upgrade to Office 365, the staff were also invited to vote on their preferred end-point technology resulting in a mixture of Microsoft Surface’s and Dell XPS laptops being successfully rolled out to the workforce.
“[the consultant] Had a great ability to immerse himself in the business, gain a grasp of IT and Ops strategy/priorities and culture to translate this into a cohesive and deliverable IS strategy” – COO GS1 UK
Diabetes UK is the leading charity that cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of every person affected by or at risk of diabetes. The organisation embarked on a large-scale initiative to move their computing infrastructure from their onsite facility to a third-party data centre provider. However, the project proved much larger than first thought and required far more resources than the internal IT team originally anticipated. Consequently, the project fell behind schedule which started to impact the overall business case as well as delay other business objectives.
Our consultant joined the company with the specific brief to turn the infrastructure migration project around, to enable it to deliver on its intended benefits. Secondary objectives being a review of the IT structure and skill sets and ensure the IT department was in a strong position to capitalise on its new operating model boosting its overall contribution to the business.
Through implementation of rigorous controls and project governance, the migration to the new data centre was completed to the benefit of all the business users.
“[the consultant] Spent a lot of time and patience working with teams to get the systems specification right so that the implementation and delivery were successful” – COO Diabetes UK
Operating from multiple countries each with their own social media accounts there was no central view for Head Office. Utilising MarlynScott’s experience in drafting such documents an RFP was produced taking in to account all the requirements communicated by Royal Canin and avoiding the common pitfalls, see our blog here.
